    The Post Covid-19 World Order

    Get PDF
Undoubtedly, the type of world we lived in during the pre-COVID-19 era would not hang on for long. During the last six months, indications of structural changes in the global power hierarchy can be perceived. The world may gradually inch towards a new world order with a new set of power equations and structural adjustments. Though there is no unanimity on the ushering of new world order post-pandemic, the upshot of the COVID-19 would certainly be consequential for the current world order which at first has started to reshape and will fully transform to its new avatar at once. When will it fully usher, and what would be the exact contours of the post-COVID-19 world order, is too early to conclude. But one must ponder if such a systemic alteration is to occur, some fracture in the global governance structure would too emerge. Has any irreparable fracture among the current global ruling elites emerged? Will the wrangling centered around the pandemic will prompt any fresh alignments and counter-alignments culminating in a new polarity at the global level? DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.431853

Modelling and mapping of the COVID-19 trajectory and pandemic paths at global scale: A geographer's perspective

    Get PDF
In December 2019, the virus SARS-CoV-2 responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic was detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The virus started to spread from China and dispersed over the rest of the world. In March 2020, WHO (World Health Organization) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. The transmission path of the pandemic was accelerated by different types of transportation. With complete analysis of spatial data, population density, types of traffic networks, and their properties, the spatial distribution of COVID-19 was estimated. GIS (Geographical Information System), numerical methods, and software for network analysis were used in this research to model scenarios of virus distribution on a global scale. The analyzed data included air, railway, marine, and road traffic. In the pandemic research, numerous models of possible trajectory of viruses can be created. Many have a stochastic character. This study includes all countries in the world affected by the COVID-19 up to date. In this study, GIS methods such as buffer, interpolations, and numerical analysis were used in order to estimate and visualize ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. According to the availability of new data, trajectory of virus paths was estimated. On the other hand, sparsely populated areas with poorly developed and small traffic networks (and isolated island territories) tend to be less or not affected as shown by the model. This low-cost approach can be used in order to define important measures that need to be addressed and implemented in order to successfully mitigate the implications of COVID-19 not only on global, but local and regional scales as well

Since December 2019, COVID-19 and all of its variants continue to ravage the planet with consequent negative impact that has completely changed our lives within a short period of time after the outbreak of the Virus. On March 11, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Since then, a group of new COVID-19 variants has emerged posing a greater danger to humanity. By the start of August 2021, the reported COVID-19 related death toll across the globe has rocketed to 4,233,139. To deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, countries across the world have rushed to develop various techniques in order to embrace an array of solutions to the problem. Covid-19 negatively affected countries in several sectors including industry, business, health, and education to name a few. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are among the top countries which use cutting-edge technologies in several sectors. This significantly helped these countries to overcome the spread of this virus. In this paper, we present an overview of the technologies, techniques, solutions, and strategies deployed by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in order to safeguard their citizens and speedy return of life to normalcy

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the disruption of all aspects in society. It has sent waves of panic throughout the world, leaving no sector untouched, and incited an economic recession which will not be quickly overcome. The severity of this economic crisis is illustrated by a 3.3% fall in the global GDP in 2020. The devastating effects of the pandemic caused a decrease of 3.1 million people in the world population [6]. More than three-quarters of the world have incepted lockdown policies as a result of the pandemic setting developing countries backwards due to the lack of resources in the form of labour, medical, infrastructure and many more as these resources are human's basic needs. Although certain industries such as technology and health insurance have benefitted from the pandemic, industries such as the airline sector, oil and gas, travel and leisure are struggling to adapt to the new conditions generated by the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic indisputably impacts all economic arenas. As such, this research paper aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on investment in Ambon The qualitative method was employed for this research in order to identify the actual conditions within Ambon, to assess the economic ramifications on Ambon in light of COVID- 19. By interviewing 11 influential stakeholders in the Ambonese economy, different interpretations will be considered and a new theory will be developed in regards to the investment impact throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in Ambon. Ultimately, the rationale underpinning this research is to help Ambon realise its economic potential. This research will also shed light on the business sectors to optimise in the near future. This research will also provide insight for both the private and public sector in order to optimise their policies. Essentially, this research strives to prevent further adverse economic ramifications in Ambon.Keyword: Pandemic, Covid-19, economy of Ambon, investmen

    Get PDF
Healthcare providers were placed under considerable strain during the COVID-19 pandemic. To exacerbate matters more, a sudden shift to telehealth became necessary to provide safe provider-patient visits. The increased strain created by the sudden need to implement a telehealth protocol is believed to have decreased workplace satisfaction. This study aims to investigate how the rapid shift to telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic affected healthcare providers’ workplace satisfaction, how virtual visits created challenges and opportunities for provider-patient communication, and how the use of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic affected healthcare providers’ capacity to engage in patient-centered communication. For this study, 15 primary healthcare providers were interviewed. Learning a new system and protocols in order to conduct virtual visits, as well as new obstacles that providers never encountered before, created a challenge for providers all over. A year after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, telehealth has demonstrated the benefits of permanently incorporating it as a tool for providers to utilize in the future of medicine

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected most of the world, adding health security as a new challenge. Instead of facing these challenges, some states move towards a system of competition and intolerance, which forms new patterns in the international order. This questions the impact of the pandemic on the strategic dynamics of the international order. This article argues that the global pandemic transforms the political system and the way of governing liberal democracy more than any other factor. It took the form of a variable, driver, and accelerator, and the established world order transformed into a new form of order. Using the descriptive-analytical method and the theories of international relations, the current study examined the impact of the pandemic on the strategic dynamics of the international order.        &nbsp

Online Learning During the Covid-19 Pandemic from the Perspective of Parsons’ Structural Functional Theory

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic results social changes significantly in the world of education, from offline learning to online learning. In order not to experience cultural lag, this article offers a functional structural theory initiated by Talcott Parsons to examine the implementation of online learning, through the AGIL (Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, Latency) scheme. This article recommends to all involved and interested parties to immediately adapt to online learning, so that the online learning can meet the educational and learning objectives that have been proclaimed. Therefore, integration between three educational centres is needed, such as school, families and communities; so that education as a cultural pattern inherent in Indonesian society is maintained even during the Covid-19 pandemic. More than that, the implementation of online learning must maintain a new cultural pattern during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely complying with health protocol standards
